One day out of a lifetime could be what defines a person’s career. One “shining moment” could change the world. Some people look forward to that day their whole life, but do they know that every moment leading up to that day is preparing them?
Jesus knew this. He knew that one day there would be a culmination of all that he did here on earth. He knew his purpose, he lived to his fullest potential. He harnessed the power of relationship with God.
You see, Jesus knew that all he was able to do was because of his Father. He even said,”I assure you: The Son is not able to do anything on His own, but only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, the Son also does these things in the same way. (John 5:19 HCSB)
The power to accomplish God’s purpose comes from being in relationship with Him. Jesus knew this and used that relationship to know and do all that the Father had planned for him- including the most epic day in history. Jesus trusted the Father, and he was willing to do whatever he was supposed to do. Jesus trusted God’s will. It took power to be able to walk up to allow himself to be handed over to the Jews and wrongly accused. It took power to stay silent amongst the slander and lies. And it took power to endure the cross.
All of Jesus’ life led up to this (and to what was coming a few days later). So as we live our lives, let us remember that living in close relationship with God is the means to getting to our big day- whatever that looks like.
And let us celebrate Jesus, for it is because of him that we can be in right relationship with God.
